Our British Weightlifting Affiliated Weightlifting Club was established in 2020 upon completion of our dedicated 8 - platform weightlifting area. The goal was to create a state-of-the-art facility that caters for both beginner and competitive weightlifters, as well as leisure users and athletes from other sports.
What is Weightlifting?
Also known as Olympic Weightlifting (as it is an Olympic sport), the sport of weightlifting involves technique, strength, speed and flexibility. There are two lifts in weightlifting; the snatch, in which the athlete lifts the barbell from the floor to overhead in a single movement, and the clean and jerk, in which the athlete lifts the barbell from the floor to the shoulders in one movement, and then from the shoulders to overhead in a second movement. In a competition, the athlete would aim to lift their best possible snatch, followed by their best possible clean and jerk, with 3 attempts allowed for each. Not only is it an extremely enjoyable and rewarding sport in itself but their are many benefits of performing the Olympic lifts, and as a result many athletes from other sports, as well fitness enthusiasts regularly include them in their training.
We run several weightlifting training sessions each week, with weekly coached sessions and regular classes for beginners, and as the club is based within the gym, you can keep practicing all the time the gym is open! (6am-10pm Weekdays, 7am-8pm Weekends)

We also hold regular weightlifting and powerlifting competitions within the gym and these are very well received events, with participants entering from all over the South East, often inspiring other gym members to try out the sport for the first time!
